Gothikana is a gothic, dark‑academia romance about Corvina Clemm, a lifelong outcast who, after her mother’s death, receives a mysterious invitation to attend the remote and eerie Verenmore University, housed in a crumbling castle atop a mountain with a bloody history of disappearances and supposed suicides. As Corvina settles in, strange occurrences, whispered legends, and hints of a century‑old mystery draw her toward Vad Deverell, the enigmatic, silver‑eyed professor who seems to know more about the castle—and about Corvina herself—than he lets on. Their forbidden attraction unfolds amid locked towers, haunted woods, and growing questions about what is real and what might be madness, blending slow‑burn romance, psychological tension, and an increasingly twisty mystery without revealing how the secrets of Verenmore or their relationship are resolved.
Fun, standalone, spooky season read! Vad and Corvina are surprisingly complex characters. I kind of wish we had more of them. This could have easily been 2-3 books. Especially since not all of the mysteries are solved at the end.
Nice little twist I did NOT see coming. I flew through this in one day, literally on a flight. It was so fast paced and well written. Highly recommend!
Ultimate spooky vibes? ✅ I loved this mysterious standalone and read it October 2024. I loved the dark academia vibes and Dracula undertones. There’s a spooky castle, woods they aren’t supposed to go in – that they obviously go in… It’s great.
Forbidden/taboo relationship? Yup! Sign me up! Miscommunication from the MMC Vad got a little annoying but other than that – nice little witchy standalone with a great twist at the end.
