Basic Bookish is built around series because your favorite romantasy and romance stories rarely stop at book one. When you follow a series, every upcoming release in that world lands on your radar, along with series news and announcements so you're never the last to know a sequel dropped. Think of it as your personal insider track for the stories you care most about.
How to follow a series:
- Search for a series by title, author, or trope, or browse by genre.
- Open the series page and tap "Follow."
- Choose how you want to be notified (push, email, or in-app).
Rate it. Review it. Spice it. Discuss it.
Every book deserves a reaction. On Basic Bookish, you can log a read with a half-star rating, score the heat on our signature spice scale, write a review in your own words, and embed your review videos by providing a URL to TikTok or Instagram or uploading directly. Then head straight to the series discussion forum, where Reddit-style threads let readers theorize, fangirl, vent, and debate every plot twist together.
How to rate, review, and discuss:
- Find the book on its series page and tap "Rate this book/series."
- Add your half-star rating and set the spice level.
- Write a review, and embed a video review by pasting a TikTok or Instagram URL or uploading directly.
- Tap "Discuss" to join ongoing threads or start a new one.
Follow your people.
Reading is better with the right crew. Follow friends to see what they're loving, follow featured reviewers for curated takes, follow authors to hear straight from the source, and follow digital character artists for the fan art bringing your favorite characters to life. Get notified whenever they post a review, share an update, or drop new content so you never miss a thing.
How to follow your people:
- Tap any profile to see who they are and what they share.
- Hit "Follow" to start keeping up with them.
- Notifications are on by default; visit your notification center anytime to fine-tune the frequency and method.
- Visit their profile anytime to see their latest reviews, posts, and updates.
Build a TBR that actually works.
Your to-be-read list shouldn't feel like a graveyard. Basic Bookish gives you a drag-and-drop TBR so you can reorder by priority at any time, plus custom library stacks that let you organize your reads however your brain works. Stacks are your own collections, so you can sort by mood, trope, vibe, or any theme you want.
How to build your TBR and stacks:
- Tap "Follow & Add to Library" on any book or series page.
- Open your TBR and drag books into the order you want to read them.
- Create a new stack and give it any name you like.
- Drag books into your stacks to organize them your way.
About Us
Jamie and Erica have been best friends since 6th grade when they met at middle school in Boise, Idaho. They are both first born daughters (IYKYK), call each other “life partners” and validate each other’s every decision daily over Marco Polo.
They started Basic Bookish after spending too much time struggling to find the info they wanted. Hopping from one influencer’s socials to another, then to review sites, author pages, and publisher websites, the search was annoying and the information was scattered. They soon realized they weren’t the only frustrated book nerds out there and decided to solve this dilemma for others, too.
Jamie and Erica created Basic Bookish to give bookish besties like them a place to find in-depth series info, a release calendar, guides on what to read next, fan art, links to Bookstagram and BookTok influencer reviews, and cute merch. They’ve built an organized, one-stop shop for all your bookish needs!
Basic Bookish is a play on basic bitches which they consider themselves to be. This isn’t their first business (or rodeo). Whether they are really smart or really dumb remains to be seen.
Erica
Erica is both a California girl and an Idaho girl, but after marrying a Navy SEAL (who Jamie lined her up with), finds herself a resident of the great commonwealth of Pennsylvania. She is a former tech recruiter turned travel agent and when she isn’t chasing around her 6 year old daughter and hundred pound Pit Bull, she is deep in her romantasy books. Her love affair started with ACOTAR and her roman empire is Zodiac Academy. She’s a kindle reader, passionate about cake, very proud of her leg guitar, and sports a swimsuit that says “brutally honest” because yes, she is.
Jamie
Jamie is a recovering software engineer that found herself preaching books like it was her job, so she decided to make it her job. Her gateway drug was Fourth Wing and her roman empire is Quicksilver. She prefers reading physical books in what she affectionately refers to as her "invalid bed." She lives in Idaho with her husband and four kids, three of whom are adopted. Her favorite things include weekends in the mountains, Aperol Spritzes, offering unsolicited opinions on her husband's house flipping projects, and making itineraries for girls trips.
