Jamie’s review
Where to even start… this series follows a group of friends in Ireland in the 90's and early 2000's. It's based on the author's life and let me tell you, it's harrowing. Each of the characters deals with the most gut wrenching trauma, it's emotional warfare every time you pick up a book.
That being said, I've never read something that exposes so much, unapologetically. Not only the horrendous abuse but the mindset behind the coping mechanisms of survivors. It's just…. eye-opening. This was Chloe Walsh's reality and this is the reality for so many people. It felt important to read it.
I loved Joey and Aiofe's books the most. I just related more to them. But Johnny, Shannon, Gibsie, Claire, Hugh, and Lizzie all have a special place in my heart. I want to talk like them and call everyone "love" and say "good man yourself." I am glad my friend Mo convinced me to read these books but I am also glad to be done reading them, if that makes sense.
