By:Kate Quinn
Set in a 1950s Washington, D.C. women’s boardinghouse, The Briar Club follows a diverse group of residents—among them a polished English homemaker, a cop’s daughter, and a former women’s baseball star—whose wary coexistence shifts when a charming but secretive widow, Grace March, moves into the attic room and begins hosting intimate dinners that draw them into a circle of unexpected friendship. As Cold War paranoia and McCarthy-era politics press in from the outside, each woman’s hidden struggles and loyalties gradually come to light, and the boardinghouse becomes both a refuge and a pressure cooker that forces them to question whom they can trust and what they are willing to risk for one another, all against the backdrop of an unnamed act of violence that threatens to shatter their fragile community.
