I was a tad bit nervous about this one because although it was a massive booktok hit, some people I knew really disliked it. Maybe I set the bar low, but I absolutely LOVED When the Moon Hatched.
The bad: the time recording was stupid and I never knew wtf “phase or cycle or aurora” we were in. Just use years, we don’t need to be that clever. The 3 different dragon 🐉 species also seemed excessive and confusing. Pacing was off and it got slow in the 3rd quarter then BAM, you get hit with all kinds of twists in the end. Speaking of, the book is 730 pages. She a thiiic one. Just a heads up. ALSO, we could have used more 🌶️.
The good: the writing was BEAUTIFUL👌🏼 just so well written. I am obsessed with Kaan and Raeve. Like no other MMC/FMC I’ve read. Maybe on par with Rhysand and Feyre for me. I was feeling FEELINGS. They live in my head rent free. I did not see the twists coming and I pride myself on that shit. The Magic system and world building was unique and I loved it. I also loved the amnesia/lost memories premise that Raeve struggles with.
